Griff Newsletter Banner Volume 2, Issue 1

A MESSAGE FROM OPERATIONS MANAGER, STEVE PYO

Greetings Griff golfers!

Welcome to the Spring 2022 golf season! I wish you all a wonderful season of golf here at the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course.

This is the time to renew your membership and avoid the May 1, 2022 price increase. Please take a few minutes to renew your membership here

The Griffith E. Harris Golf Course is among the premier venues in the metropolitan area because of the excellent work by our maintenance crew, and as a result of the collective efforts of the golf course’s valued patrons like you. Your care and respect for our golf course—by performing the simple act of replacing divots or repairing the ball marks you see—is why the quality of the Griff golfing experience is outstanding.

This is your beloved golf course, and because of you, it provides some of the smoothest putting surfaces, and lushest fairways around… all a reflection of your efforts to help us provide you with an unparalleled golfing value during this year ahead.

I wish you all a wonderful Spring, and look forward to seeing you on the golf course very soon.

Sincerely,
Steve Pyo

PRO TIPS: ESCAPING BUNKERS by Patrick Massi, PGA

Landing in a green-side bunker is something every golfer has dealt with. But it’s how you handle the situation that can be the difference between a par, bogey or even worse!!

I recommend widening your stance. You’ll want to have your feet either shoulder-width apart or slightly wider. Also, remember to keep an open clubface and have the ball position further up. DO NOT aim left with your body!!

From there, I would say 70% of your weight on your lead foot, and make sure you go ahead and take a pretty good swing at it, allowing the club to then pass through and keep going a little more.

Try this visualization. Visualize keeping your right knuckles (right-handed golfer) facing the ground through the shot. This helps the club glide through the sand instead of digging.

PATRICK MASSI, HEAD PRO

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Patrick Massi.  For more than 14 years, I have worked as the Assistant Golf Professional under the direction of Joe Felder, who recently retired as Head Golf Professional for the past 32 years. My background, experience, and knowledge stem from the many positions I have held here while growing up as a junior golfer. From parking and cleaning carts, picking up range balls, selling and assisting in the golf shop all before finally becoming a PGA member and providing group and individual instruction.

Over the years, I have fostered many relationships among members, workers, and players. I appreciate what is needed to manage and enrich the operations at The Griff.

For those of you who do know me, you know that I’m very passionate, enthusiastic, and extremely dedicated to The Griff.

I am very excited and extremely honored and humbled to be your next Head Golf Professional here at The Griff. This is a dream come true for me!! Please feel free to email me or call the Golf Shop with any questions you may have. Come see us for all your golfing needs. The staff and I are here to help.

Looking forward to seeing you on the first tee this Spring!!

WALTER Janeczko, ASSISTANT PRO
